Therapy for Anxiety & Depression

OUR SERVICES

Embedded in the human experience are the feelings of anxiety and depression. Although these are feelings anyone can experience at some point in time, not everyone can effectively manage living with them. If you’ve found yourself struggling to overcome the obstacles set before you by either condition, we can help.

Treating Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety is a common yet uncomfortable feeling that many people try to avoid. While it is a natural part of life, if left unchecked, anxiety can take over.

My approach to managing anxiety involves developing a relationship with it rather than fighting against it. This can be challenging since many people try to escape anxiety through denial or avoidance, which often exacerbates the problem. Instead, by learning to relate to anxiety and understand its message, we can help it trust us. This approach can gradually reduce its grip, allowing us to live our lives more freely.

Research shows that therapy is usually the most effective way to treat anxiety disorders, as it addresses the root causes rather than just the symptoms.

Symptoms of Anxiety:

  • Nervousness, restlessness, or tension

  • Feelings of danger, panic, or dread

  • Rapid breathing or hyperventilation

  • Excessive sweating

  • Trembling or muscle twitching

  • Weakness or lethargy

  • Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly

  • Insomnia

  • Obsessions (indicative of obsessive-compulsive disorder)

  • Anxiety related to past events (indicative of post-traumatic stress disorder)

Therapy helps make sense of the underlying fears and teaches coping skills to manage anxiety effectively.

Treating Depression

Depression manifests in various ways, often differing from person to person. Some people may function while depressed but find their quality of life diminished, while others struggle with even routine tasks.

Symptoms of Depression:

  • Lethargy and overwhelm

  • Changes in appetite or sleep

  • Pessimism about the future

  • Self-critical thoughts

  • Procrastination

  • Irritability

  • Loss of pleasure in enjoyable activities

  • Difficulty making decisions

  • Disorganization

  • Challenges with time management and scheduling

Mental health counseling can help address these symptoms, offering strategies to manage both anxiety and depression effectively.
